Taku

Taku is a self-taught illustrator and painter in Japan. No art school. Childhood drawings kept private for years, then Instagram, so other people could finish the looking with him.

Taku’s creative process is deeply personal and rooted in his everyday life. He works from his home workshop in Japan, often drawing at his living room table with a pen tablet connected to his computer. Surrounded by the comforts of his space, he finds inspiration in the simple pleasures of life—watching his favorite DVDs, listening to music, and immersing himself in the vibrant culture of his homeland. His art gathers influences from the manga and anime of his childhood, the works of contemporary illustrators on social media, and the rich traditions of Japanese culture. While his urban environment provides a backdrop for his creativity, Taku also draws inspiration from the natural beauty that lies just beyond the city limits, though this influence has yet to fully manifest in his work.

The characters Taku portrays are as fluid and imaginative as his creative process. Some are born from vivid imaginings in his mind, while others emerge organically as he sketches, evolving from doodles into fully realized figures. He deliberately avoids rigid definitions, allowing viewers to interpret his characters freely. This openness extends to his artistic style, which he describes as intentionally unbound. Rather than confining himself to a single aesthetic, Taku revels in experimentation, exploring different techniques and mediums. This eclectic approach, he believes, has become his signature style.

Beyond art, Taku finds inspiration in a variety of passions. He enjoys watching dramas, playing the guitar, and exploring Japan’s scenic hot springs and inns. An avid sports enthusiast, he particularly loves snowboarding in the winter, activities that he says fuel his creativity. Looking ahead, Taku aspires to share his art with a global audience. His ambitions include creating book illustrations and covers, publishing a personal art collection, and eventually holding a solo exhibition. For Taku, the journey is as important as the destination, and he is committed to crafting art that is not only beautiful but also unforgettable.
