Zzoya

Zzoya draws flowers, a forest, and a cat in a soft, warm picture, and she makes goods from the same garden. A solo room full of cats, a canvas called Carrot Farm, and the name Jo In-yeong belong to that work. She hopes a picture can be a little warmth in a busy day. Open Gallery lists solo shows built around that same garden.

About this artist

Zzoya is the name on the pictures. The Maeil Shinmun, writing in March 2022, gives the name as Jo In-yeong. The newspaper describes pictures made mostly around flowers, forests, and cats, tender and cute, and notes that she studied industrial design as an undergraduate and makes her own goods from the pictures.

In her own note she says she draws soft, warm pictures, and the moments when the flowers of a feeling come into bloom. Along that path, she writes, a person can meet a self they had forgotten, and find a quiet comfort in a relationship. She hopes the picture can be a warmth that covers the heart for a moment in a busy day.

From 22 March to 14 April 2022 she was one of three illustrators in My Universe at Dalseo Art Center, with Kim Ra-on and Eom Su-geun. A picture of hers in that show was Carrot Farm, a digital print on canvas, 80 by 80 centimetres, dated 2022. On the opening day the centre showed a video of her making a picture.

The solo shows listed by Open Gallery keep the same garden. In 2020 and 2021 she showed Flowers, Forest, Cat. In 2022, A Garden with a Cat and Flowers, the Sky, and Us. In 2023, A Small Garden in My Heart at Gallery RGB Cube. In 2024, You Are a Flower at Gallery Space Do, Bustling Cat Cafe, and Zzoya's Soft Studio at 1019 Gallery. In 2025, The Secret Garden at Yeonujae. Among the group rooms are the 2022 three-person show at Dalseo Art Center, EXPOSITION ZZOYA in Toulouse that same year, and a 2019 class, Making My Own Fairy Tale, at Seoul National University's culture and arts centre.
