Range Murata is on the floor at EDITION88 this week, the last day of a short flagship run that also dropped new goods online. The shop closed 21 September for the typhoon, so the public window is thinner than the poster. For the Index, this is the live one: character design leaving the page and sitting in a shop.
Mai Yoneyama, ART SCRAMBLE 11, Grand Front Osaka

Mai Yoneyama is the sole artist of ART SCRAMBLE 11 at Grand Front Osaka, scheduled through March 2027. The install moves her line off the screen: a plaza drawing, plus sculptures including Reflection and arc. It is the public, still-open counterpart to the Kyoto solo that closed in August.
Eric Joyner at Hunters Point Fall Open Studios

Open Studio
Eric Joyner opens studio 2206 at Hunters Point Shipyard on 17 and 18 October, 11:00 to 18:00. It is a building-wide open studios weekend, not a gallery solo, and it is the next dated appearance on his own site. Useful if the Index wants a North American date that has not happened yet.
Le grand magasin at Primo Piano, Paris

Tsuchika put pages and prints from The Concierge at Hokkyoku Department Store on the wall of Primo Piano, inside Le Bon Marché, through 18 October. The department store in the manga was drawn with this building in mind, and the hang sits inside the Super Japon fair. A rare case where the reference and the room are the same place.

Japanese illustrator mame, Tokyo-born and now in Yamanashi, draws clumsy girls in rooms that remember the 1990s and still hold a phone. A shoujo debut at twenty went quiet; Instagram, in her thirties, brought the line back. Aishiteru tte itte yo ne followed, speech bubble and all, irony and a little bite.
