Jun Loneda

Jun Ioneda draws a playful line through science fiction, fantasy, and the queer pictures he makes for a campaign or a poster. A São Paulo studio, an MTV ident, and a Pride vodka pack sit in that same graphic world. The studio is called Barca. He is listed here as Jun Loneda. He teaches at Aprender.Design and the Barcelona School of Arts and Design.

About this artist

Jun Ioneda, listed here as Jun Loneda, is a graphic artist from São Paulo, Brazil. He leads illustration projects on his own, and he is also head of his illustration studio, Barca. On his own page he describes the work as a blend of queer culture, science fiction, fantasy, and Japanese culture, with a playful touch that is at times melancholic and often humorous. He teaches illustration at Aprender.Design and at the Barcelona School of Arts and Design.

His site lists the jobs, and also notes that not all of the work was commissioned. He makes a lot of it for fun. Among the commissioned pieces are an artist ident for MTV Pride, packaging for Hotel Tango Pride, animation for Rolando on Spotify, a poster for Netflix Almanaque Tudum, and an illustration for ELLE tied to Shalimar Guerlain. Heinz, Fanta, and Tinder are on the same list. A campaign, a pack, and a poster share the graphic line.

He directed, illustrated, and wrote the MTV ident. It began airing in November 2021 in Brazil, then in Europe, Asia, and the rest of South America. He describes it as a visual story based on his experience growing up. For Hotel Tango, invited each year to remake the vodka packaging during Pride month, he wanted a picture that was unapologetically fun, with queer people sharing their power and having their best time together. Young & Laramore directed that campaign. The packaging received an LAD Award in 2023.

In the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada he is represented by Snyder. In Europe, Asia, and the Emirates he is represented by Pocko and Pocko Japan. Brazil and the rest of the world come through his own studio. The picture stays the one he names: science fiction, fantasy, and a playful line.
