Thomas Bossard

Thomas Bossard, born in 1971, is a contemporary French artist whose practice elegantly spans painting, drawing, and theatrical design. He embarked on his artistic journey by studying at the Saint Luc Institute in Tournai, Belgium, specialising in Graphic Arts — a formative period that laid the foundation for his artistic prowess and set the stage for a career marked by versatility and creativity.

The Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse served as the canvas for Bossard's initial expressions as a painter-decorator. Here, he unfurled his artistic palette across a myriad of forms, showcasing his talents in illustration, painting, scenography, frescoes, photography, and decoration. Notable among his contributions are the numerous sets he created for classic works including The Mastersingers, Siegfried, The Twilight of the Gods, The Magic Flute, and L'Auberge du Cheval Blanc.

Beyond the theatrical stage, Bossard extended his talents to the realms of film and advertising, working as a set designer for accomplished directors including Pierre Debauche, Charlène Liczba, Pierre Letessier, William Mesguich, Robert Angebaud, and Vincent Tavernier. His artistic reach further expanded as he ventured into creating storyboards for short films and advertising projects.

Bossard's artistic endeavours also encompassed collaborations with the Yves Deshoulières factory, where he applied his creative touch to drawings on porcelain. Additionally, his talents found expression in the world of scale modelling, as he contributed decorations for Maquettes Heller.

Since 2005, Bossard has directed his focus primarily toward painting, participating in various cultural events and exhibiting his works in several galleries across Europe. His distinctive style, infused with humour, draws inspiration from artistic luminaries like James Ensor and Honoré Daumier, reflecting a keen awareness of the historical context in which his work unfolds.
